Boolaroo Public Art by David Ball
David Ball

I first came across work by David Ball visiting the BIG Corkscrew in Berrima, NSW. It was a private commission for a winery and another artist thankfully supplied the info as the sculpture had no plaque.

I've since visited several sculptures by David and he's become a bit of a favorite of mine when it comes to Public Art.

This particular concept is a staple in Ball's portfolio. The artist has similar work in Goulburn, Batemans Bay (visited but not yet posted) and Mossman, NSW.

This large Corten Steel sculpture titled 'Eolian' was installed in 2021 and can be found outside Bunnings, near the round-a-bout, on Munibung Rd.

The Plaque reads:

Eolian frames the earth and sky, encouraging audiences to explore different views of the former Sulphide Corporation site and Munibung Hill, acknowledging the significance of these sites in Lake Macquarie's history and its future....

The artwork's location is significant, marking a key entrance gateway to the former and future site. The industrial scale of the artwork attracts viewers to see the environment through a new frame whilst acknowledging its layered history...
