Belconnen's favorite penis shaped owl!

Look closely! Do you see it? It's probably not what Bruce Armstrong intended when designing his owl tribute for Belconnen but this sculpture, one of Canberra's most prominent BIG Things, has been nicknamed 'The Penis Owl' It's simply titled 'Owl' though and it was created in 2011 based off the Australian Powerful Owl Ninox Strenua. The BIG owl is positioned in the middle of a median strip on the Corner of Belconnen Way & Benjamin Way. Parking's a bit rough for this area so I'd strongly suggest parking at 6 Ware Pl, Belconnen. It's a 30 second walk to the sculpture and a safe place to park.

Fortitude Valley | Sophie Odling

Sophie Odling Today had me exploring Fortitude Valley. There's 444 photos in my folder waiting to be sorted. I thought it'd be hard to pick a favourite for today but this beautiful piece by Sophie Odling really does stand out amongst the rest. It does appear to be a series of painted boards, about 8 in total, which I'm not fond of. Painted boards feel temporary to me and it's always disappointing to visit a blank wall. Regardless it's a beautiful installment and I hope it remains for you to see. When I visited this installment was inside the arcade between Duncan and Brunswick Streets. The floor is very noticeable and not hard to find.

The BIG Pears in Canberra

'Pear - Version Number 2' by George Baldessin They've moved location! Most older photos will have this amazing sculpture photographed in front of the Galleries doors and if you're like me your heart will drop as you face the grim thought of perhaps it was moved along. I had a hard time digesting the National Art Gallery would relocate a sculpture they've had on premise since 1973 and walked around the building for good measure. Lucky I did! Nestled in a court yard completely obscured by trees was my art conquest for the afternoon. There was a class of school children where the sculpture use to be positioned and since that sculpture was being poked and climbed on I completely understand why Baldessin's sculpture was relocated to an obscure place. Taking a few selfies with the pears I wasn't suppose to touch I did note they flexed when leaned on. I was really surprised to learn George constructed these Pears in Moorrabbin, Melbourne As always...
