One of seventy-two (technically seventy one) large aquatic sea creatures created by MotherWorks for the opening ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
For every country that competed in the Games an aquatic sea creature, native to that country was created and floated across 36 barges down the Yarra River in an amazing sound and light display
After the Commonwealth Games concluded 62 of the sculptures were offered to councils through out Victoria to boost tourism. Many of the sculptures found permanent homes and sadly, since the sculptures weren't designed for the outdoor elements, between the Yarra River and councils placing them outdoors, many sculptures perished.
This was probably the second swimming centre I had visited that was hosting a BIG Fish and I asked at reception if it would be okay to take a photo of it. He said he'd have to go ask and off he went. I knew where it was and took 5 steps from reception to the other side of the wall and snapped a photo and a selfie while I waited, just in case. The young man came back and walked right past me back to his reception desk. I wasn't sure if it were a yes of a no so I took a few more photos for good measure and continued on the days art quest
